The Mosselbay and George Municipality said that persistent solid rainfall had led to the Garden Route Dam level rising from 64.5% last Wednesday to 89% of total capacity on Monday.

Municipal spokesperson, Chantelle Edwards-Klose, said that the area received a total rainfall of 148mm.

“The dam level is expected to rise even further due to continued run-off and further rainfall expected this week,” she said.

Edwards-Klose also said that the Garden Route Dam needs to be “recalibrated by the Department of Water Affairs following the raising of the wall. Until this process has been completed all readings are based on the previous dam wall height,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nelson Mandela Bay’s main supply dams continue their steady decline. According to the latest figures released on Monday, the combined capacity of Nelson Mandala Bay’s four main dams stood at 29.40% of combined capacity, down from the 29.56% recorded on Friday.
